Draft rumors are flying, as it was a busy weekend surrounded by the Heisman Selection ceremony. The ceremony was held Saturday night at the Lincoln Center in New York City. Colorado’s athlete Travis Hunter was selected as the 2024 Heisman winner. He was accompanied at the ceremony by teammate and quarterback Shedeur Sanders and his father, Buffaloes’ head coach Deion Sanders.
There was previous noise that Deion Sanders wouldn’t let his son get drafted by the New York Giants if it came down to that. Over the past few weeks, this created a negative stigma around the situation. Shedeur Sanders is about to be drafted, probably No.1 overall in the NFL, and trying to control where he plays would be a bad look. However, after a weekend surrounding the Heisman winner and Sanders, a lot was cleared up, proving that none of the noise was true.

Shedeur Sanders Plays Catch With Malik Nabers in New York City Streets
Giants Malik Nabers and Isaiah Simmons walked into a jewelry store Friday night and ran into their potential future teammate, Shedeur Sanders. Sanders, the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, was sitting in a New York City business when Nabers and Simmons stopped in. This led to the viral video of Sanders and Nabers playing catch in the streets of NYC.
Sanders is a top prospect due to his accuracy and poise in the pocket. In his second season at Colorado, he completed 74.2% of his passes, which led the country. Sanders also led the Big 12 in passing yards with 3,926 yards and 35 passing touchdowns. Aside from the stats, he has showcased his leadership and maturity as he faces the next chapter of his football career.
“PrimeTime” Deion Sanders Speaks Up
Reports say the Las Vegas Raiders will draft Sanders in the upcoming draft. Other reports also stated a “high likelihood” that Sanders would refuse to play if drafted by either the Giants or the Cleveland Browns. Comparing this situation to the 2004 NFL draft when Eli Manning refused to play for the Chargers, we all know how that story went.
Following the weekend’s activities, Sanders Sr. posted on X, replying to the allegations against his son, stating, ” A lie don’t care who tells it. Please stop trying to become relevant by misrepresenting my son. God bless you.” This lets fans know the previous headlines were not accurate.

Things have heated up even more since then, as Coach Prime recently appeared on The Pacman Jones Show. He stated, “the Giants are not giving up the No. 1 pick. I know that for a fact”. And “Shedeur is going to be the No.1 pick” as he expects his son will be taken with that selection. In other words, saying if the Giants have the first pick, they will drafting him.
We are about five months away from the draft in April where many questions will need to be answered; Will the Giants have the No. 1 overall pick? If they do, how will they handle the “distraction” of PrimeTime? And who will be their head coach and GM?
A Race to the Top of the Draft Board
If the Giants and Raiders both lose out, the Raiders would get the first overall pick. Both teams are tied for the worst record in the NFL, (2-12) with the Raiders currently in a position to get the first pick based on their opponents’ strength of schedule. With only three weeks left in the regular season, a lot can still change. The Raiders have a Week 16 matchup versus the Jacksonville Jaguars could be a winnable game and then finish the season with the Saints and Chargers.
The Giants play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday as Michael Penix Jr. gets his NFL career underway. The Giants play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17, followed by a season-ending game against a Philadelphia Eagles team that might be resting all of their starters if they lock in a playoff spot. A win for either team will knock them out of the top three picks.
