The New York Giants have added a fourth quarterback to their roster according to the NFL waiver wire.
The Giants claimed Nathan Rourke, one day after he was released by the New England Patriots. Rourke, 26, was signed by New England back in December after being let go by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Rourke briefly spent time on Jacksonville’s active roster in early December, but has never appeared in an NFL regular season game.
Interestingly, this is his second go-around with the Giants. Back in 2021, Rourke attended the team’s rookie minicamp as a wide receiver under then-head coach Joe Judge.
During the 2021 and 2022 CFL seasons, Rourke competed for the BC Lions, appearing in 23 games with 11 starts. An Oakville, Ontario native, Rourke was named the league’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 2022 after throwing for 3,349 yards, 25 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions while also rushing for 304 yards and seven scores.
Rourke played collegiately at Fort Scott (Kansas) in the junior college ranks in 2016 and for the University of Ohio from 2017-19. He was a first-team All-MAC selection as a senior after earning second-team honors in his first two seasons with the Bobcats.
The Giants currently have Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito under contract for 2024. It will be tough for Rourke to crack the roster over any of them, but perhaps he’ll show enough to earn a practice squad opportunity in New York.
