Saquon Barkley was obviously a huge part of the New York Giants’ offense over the past half-decade. But GM Joe Schoen believes it’s time for it to revolve around Daniel Jones now that Barkley’s in Philly.
In a clip from this year’s “Hard Knocks,” Giants executive Tim McDonnell asked what the team’s identity is going to be without No. 26 in the backfield. And this is what Schoen had to say:
We’ve gotta upgrade the offensive line, and you’re paying [Daniel Jones] $40 million. It’s not to hand the ball off to a $12 million back, My plan is to address the offensive line at some point in our free agency. We’re sitting at [No. 6 in the draft], there’s a chance there’s an offensive weapon there. This is the year for Daniel. … Is he our guy for the next 10 years or do we need to pivot and find somebody else?
#Giants exec Tim McDonnell on possibly losing Saquon Barkley:
“We lose Saquon, what’s our identity gonna be?”

Fans dragged the general manager online.
Saying things like: “Imagine having a $40M quarterback and being worried about their identity losing their RB. Lmao” and “I know from what I just heard I could have done a better job with the giants roster than the dudes in that room.”
The Giants are definitely at a crossroads right now when it comes to the offensive side of the ball. But it’s the bed they made and now they have to lay it in for at least another year.
