Twenty players and coaches spoke to ESPN about one of the worst seasons in franchise history. Insecurity, lack of accountability, conviction and veteran leadership in the locker room were some of the reasons pinpointed by those who took stock of what went wrong.

This kind of calamity left those on the outside (and inside) wondering whether Schoen and Daboll should be the ones making the decision about the next quarterback, or anything else in the organization.

If Kafka departs, would the Giants look outside the organization or stick with in-house candidate Shea Tierney? The quarterbacks coach spent four years in Buffalo with Daboll before joining his staff in New York. There would be familiarity, making it a relatively easy transition ahead of a crucial season. If the Giants have to go outside the building, that raises the question of a potential scheme change.

No. 2: Giants (via trade with Cleveland Browns) – QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado

General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are on notice. Co-owner John Mara made that abundantly clear during his postseason meeting with the media. He also stressed the need to get a franchise quarterback. The only way to guarantee that: Trade up. The Giants’ offer, though— sends Cleveland No. 3 and a third-round pick this draft, then their first-round pick next year—is too good to pass up.

Round 1, Pick 3: CB/WR Travis Hunter (6-1, 185 pounds, Colorado) I selected Colorado two-way star and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, arguably the best overall player in this draft. The Giants need a CB1 in the worst way, so I’d be looking at Hunter for that role. But, with them also likely to lose receiver Darius Slayton in free agency, I could see having a small select package of plays for Hunter on offense where I believe he can be deployed both in the slot and on the boundary.
