The New York Giants have spent the offseason exploring every possible avenue to solve their quarterback situation. At one point, they were rumored to be in the mix to trade up for the number one overall pick with the intention of drafting Miami quarterback Cam Ward. That interest has cooled significantly in recent weeks, especially with the Tennessee Titans now locked in as the likely landing spot for Ward at the top of the draft.
Shedeur Sanders Is an Option, But His Draft Stock Is Unclear
With Ward seemingly off the board, Shedeur Sanders of Colorado is the next top quarterback prospect. However, there are widely conflicting opinions on where he will be selected. Some view him as a first-round talent, while others see him falling to the early 20s, as Field Yates of ESPN suggested on Sunday.

The Giants, for their part, seem hesitant to make another aggressive push up the draft board. According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, their plan to trade up now appears “dead.” That leaves them in a tough spot—if they don’t draft a quarterback, they need to land a veteran who can help them win in 2025.
The Aaron Rodgers Waiting Game
Joe Schoen and the Giants’ front office have been playing the waiting game with Aaron Rodgers, hoping he might choose them as his next destination. However, Rodgers reportedly prefers to join the Minnesota Vikings, even if they haven’t shown strong interest. That would leave the Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers as the next best options.
The problem? The Steelers have the superior roster and coaching staff, making them the more attractive destination. The Giants are willing to pay a premium to land Rodgers, but money may not be enough to sway him if he believes Pittsburgh is the better football situation.

Russell Wilson Is Still There, But Is He the Right Choice?
Russell Wilson remains the fallback option, and he’s made it clear he’s ready to sign a deal. However, the Giants have been holding off on committing, waiting to see what Rodgers decides first. Wilson is still a capable quarterback, but he’s no longer the MVP-caliber player he once was.
- Giants’ plan to trade up for No. 1 pick appears ‘dead’
- Giants’ top quarterback target waiting for Vikings, could retire
- Giants playing high-stakes roulette not securing ‘ready to sign’ quarterback
The decision Schoen makes this offseason could ultimately decide his fate as general manager. If he can’t draft a rookie quarterback who can save his job, he needs to find a veteran who can win games immediately. With their trade-up hopes fading and Rodgers leaning toward another team, the Giants’ options are starting to run thin.
