Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers got his first look at an opposing NFL defense this week when the New York Giants hosted the Detroit Lions for a joint practice in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The two teams, who will meet Thursday to kick off the preseason, had joint practices both Monday and Tuesday, and Nabers made quite the name for himself.

Nabers was virtually unstoppable against the Lions’ defense over the two joint practices, reeling in 17 catches on his 18 targets, with the only incompletion having nearly been caught in miraculous fashion.
The Lions, who have Super Bowl aspirations this year, had absolutely no answer for the Giants rookie.
Quarterback Daniel Jones and Nabers are developing quite the connection as the start of the season continues to get closer, and that was on full display over the previous two days.
While Nabers’ performance against the Lions during joint practices was about as good as it gets, he may have gotten more targets had both practices not concluded early due to fights. Nabers, himself, jumped in on the fighting on Tuesday following his lone incompletion over the two practices.
Fans should know from recent memory not to put too much stock into training camp. However, if this is any indication of the Nabers-Jones connection we will see in the regular season, the Giants offense should take a massive leap forward in 2024.
