Some of this NY Giants blog’s most loyal followers aren’t thrilled that I’m posting less.. which is correlated to (a) 13 years of underachievement combined with (b) the incredible coverage of Big Blue Banter podcast.
This past Monday, BBB dropped another podcast, this one on developments in Matthew Stafford trade rumors. Their coverage is simply outstanding. BBB:
- dissects the source/s and validity of the rumors
- reviews other teams who may/not be in the hunt for Stafford
- discusses whether the Giants should go after Stafford
- evaluates, if the Giants do go after Stafford, what the key variable is in doing so (cap, contract, comp)
- reports back to Giants fan listeners on their in-depth review of Stafford film from the 2023 + 2024 seasons for the current state of his QB play
- analyzes the impact Stafford will have on the Giants offense/players
The BBB podcast was dropped 5 days ago. Then we learn yesterday from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero that other teams are now able to speak with Stafford/his agent. It would seem to me that this is a lot more than merely determining Stafford’s open market value. Of course he can return to the Rams. He may be using the Giants as a stalking horse. Yet the dynamic with his wife speaking out + Cooper Kupp being traded by the Rams makes me think Stafford can easily walk. Something will happen soon, as his value declines as the NFL moves into Free Agency and his $4M roster bonus date arrives.
