The NFL announced the rosters for this year’s Pro Bowl on Thursday. This selection reflects a player’s performance during the regular season and is often considered one of the highest individual honors. Amid another losing season, New York Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence is the lone Giants Pro Bowl selection.

Lawrence joins Philadelphia’s Jalen Carter as the two NFC interior lineman starters. This is Lawrence’s third consecutive Pro Bowl and the first Giants player to be named to three straight Pro Bowls since safety Landon Collins. However, Lawrence is the franchise’s first at the interior defensive lineman position to earn three Pro Bowl selections since Rosie Grier did in 1953, 1956, and 1960. In addition, Brian Burns has been named a first alternate, and Malik Nabers as a second alternate.

Despite a left elbow injury that cost him the final two months of the season, Lawrence found himself as a Pro Bowl starter. He hasn’t played in a game since November 28th, when he dislocated his elbow against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Lawrence is dominant enough to gain respect and admiration from his peers and fans without finishing the season. His dominance despite how the Giants are doing this year has led NFL teams and voters to consider casting him into the Pro Bowl under these circumstances.
Lawrence is set to end the season with nine sacks, 36 pressures, 16 quarterback hits, 23 tackles, and one forced fumble. All nine of his sacks occurred in the season’s first seven games. Lawrence’s season also included a career-best 3.0 sacks in the Giants’ win over the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 6.
Lawrence played only 12 games this season, but that didn’t matter when comparing his stats over the last six seasons. This season he surpassed his career high of 7.5 sacks from the 2022 season, doing so in four less games.

Although Lawrence said in August that he didn’t want to go to the Pro Bowl alone again this season, not only is he the only Giants selection, but he is the only New Yorker going, as the New York Jets had zero players selected this year. Among the Jets, the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, and New Orleans Saints also had no Pro Bowl selections.
In 2022, Lawrence was accompanied by Saquon Barkley as the only two selections for the Giants that season—the year before, the Giants also only had two selections, James Bradberry and Evan Engram.
Reflection on the League
The fewer pro bowlers a team has on its roster usually has a direct reflect on their season. For example, look at some of the league’s top teams and how many selections they received versus teams at the bottom of the league.
The three teams with the most pro bowlers this year are the Baltimore Ravens with nine, the Detroit Lions with seven, and the Eagles with six. These teams have a combined record of 38-10 and 22 Pro Bowl selections, while the Jets, Titans, Dolphins, and Saints, who have no selectees, have 18 fewer wins combined.
