One NFL Insider predicts the Pittsburgh Steelers will move on from quarterback Russell Wilson this upcoming offseason. According to several sources, it seems like the Steelers could be building their new roster around Justin Fields. It should be no surprise since Wilson is aging while Fields has many years in the tank to give to the Steelers. The team originally brought both quarterbacks for competition to determine who could win the job and it looks like it might be Fields time if the Steelers re-sign rather than Wilson. The team has been bouncing around trying to find the next signal-caller following Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement.
However, there are several question marks regarding Wilsons’ future in the NFL at the age he is. Originally selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the veteran became arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the league spending the majority of his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson did not work out for the Broncos in just one year and that looks to be the same scenario for the Steelers since they gave him a chance after benching Justin Fields following the loss against the Dallas Cowboys. Although the team still made it to a wild card, it wasn’t enough for the team to keep Wilson any longer since they were “one and done.”
The veteran holds the record for most wins by an NFL quarterback through nine seasons and with the right opportunity, he could wind up back to his old self for a couple more years. Teams like the Saints, Giants might be able to revitalize Wilson for more than a year before he decides to retire.

Goodbye Derek Carr?
The New Orleans Saints have yet to find the next successor of this organization. Quarterback Derek Carr is not willing to take a pay cut so it’s safe to say whoever will become the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints, may wind up looking for a new quarterback in this year’s free agency. Reports may say they believe in Spencer Rattler‘s development but he hasn’t earned the starting job since he got a few reps taking over while Carr recovers from his injury last 2024 campaign.
Carr came back into the mix but it wasn’t already too late since the team was far out of playoff contention. General Manager Mickey Loomis should play the safe game and sign Wilson once he becomes available. He might be aging as well but if the Saints want to see immediate progress, they should sign him for cheap to possibly retire with them. This would buy Rattler more time to adjust and Wilson will leave the team in good hands for him.
The New G-Man
The New York Giants have gone through the same situation following the success that Eli Manning had with this organization since retiring. Daniel Jones signed a huge extension two offseasons ago which made everyone scratch their hands as the Giants were confident they found their next signal-caller for the future. However, it didn’t pay off like they were hoping. New York has been bouncing around quarterbacks and unfortunately, they do not hold the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft.
It might be safe for the Giants to pursue a capable veteran quarterback to lead this team in the right direction. Wilson’s arm seems like a favorable match for wide receiver Malik Nabers. A guy like Tommy DeVito nor Drew Lock was able to get the job done so must settle for Wilson to get back in the postseason next year.
