Trade rumors are starting to heat up ahead of the 2025 NFL draft, which gets underway April 24. The Buffalo Bills and New York Giants are among the latest teams linked to a possible blockbuster deal that could include a first-round pick.
Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reported Thursday that the Bills and Giants could be a situation to “keep an eye on.” Buscaglia noted New York’s need for a quarterback of the future makes the G-Men a potential trade partner if Buffalo looks to move back from the No. 30 overall selection.
“The close relationship between [Bills general manager Brandon] Beane and Giants GM Joe Schoen could come into the picture here,” Buscaglia wrote. Schoen worked as Beane’s assistant in Buffalo from 2017 through 2021.
A lot will likely depend on which defensive prospects—most notably the cornerbacks and defensive tackles—are still available when the Bills are on the clock.
Bills, Giants Trade Rumors: Possible 2025 NFL Draft Deal
Buffalo’s Trade Perspective
The Bills are in a tricky spot leading up to the draft. Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant is the best fit in the class, but his stock has been climbing in recent weeks, and it’s looking unlikely he’ll still be available at No. 30. He went No. 16 to the Arizona Cardinals in our Last Word on Sports writers’ mock draft.
If Grant isn’t available, the obvious route for Buffalo would be to take a cornerback. There are a lot of corners on the first-round fringe, though. Getting the most bang for the buck would likely equate to trading down and stockpiling an extra pick or two before taking a corner in the early-to-mid second round.
Christian Benford needs some help in the secondary and the Bills did not address this in Free Agency.
Cornerback in the first 2 rounds feels almost inevitable for Buffalo.

For example, the Bills could likely move down a handful of picks and still have a choice between at least two or three of the following cornerbacks: Kentucky’s Maxwell Hairston, Ole Miss’ Trey Amos, East Carolina’s Shavon Revel Jr., Florida State’s Azareye’h Thomas, and Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison.
Any of those five corners could immediately compete to start opposite Christian Benford in the Buffalo secondary. In turn, adding another selection to an already impressive 10-pick stockpile without losing much value at a key position of need makes a ton of sense for Beane.
New York’s Trade Perspective
The Giants’ quarterback room represents the ultimate one-year stopgap measure. Veteran signal-callers Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston will battle for the starting job. Tommy DeVito is No. 3 on the depth chart and nothing more than a backup option moving forward.
Miami (FL) quarterback Cam Ward is a virtual lock to go first overall to the Tennessee Titans. Schoen may not feel comfortable taking Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders at No. 3. That train of thought falls in line with bringing in both Wilson and Winston on short-term deals.
Giants hold their private workout today in Boulder, Colorado for Shedeur Sanders.

Instead, the Giants could draft someone like Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter and fill the developmental quarterback void later. Their second pick is currently scheduled for No. 34, which is the second pick in Round 2.
It’s an area where they could potentially choose from Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, and Louisville’s Tyler Shough. Other options may include Texas’s Quinn Ewers and Ohio State’s Will Howard.
Will Bills, Giants Make Blockbuster Draft Swap?
A lot of the NFL talk flying around right now doesn’t pass the smell test when you dig deeper. The period before the draft is a smokescreen haven. That said, the Bills-Giants trade rumors would actually present a win-win opportunity.
Buffalo would probably be able to secure the No. 34 selection and one of New York’s two third-round picks in the trade. Beane would then have 11 picks to either discuss a wide range of trade-up opportunities or simply add a lot of depth prospects on team-friendly rookie contracts.
The Giants could have their choice of the second-tier quarterback prospects at No. 30, and thus secure their preferred option before the end of Day 1. The first choice on Day 2 is often a popular trade target with QB-needy teams trying to move up.

Add in the longtime friendship between Beane and Schoen, and all the elements of a trade fit together quite nicely. There are a lot of moving parts, of course. First and foremost, the Bills will want to see if Grant is available before trading the pick. But the basis for a deal is definitely there.
At minimum, it’s something to keep in mind when the draft kicks off next week.
