The Giants beat Washington 14-7. The score didn’t have to be that close.
Shep muffed a punt. 7 points.
Thibodeaux dropped a pick6. 7 points.
Barkley fumbled at the WAS 7 yard line. At least 3 and probably 7 points.
What does it all mean? The Giants won a game without any of their starting OL (Bredeson isn’t their starting Center). I’d like to think if they all got healthy the Giants can be more competitive.
The Giants had 6 (?) plays of 20+ yards. Can we get Jalin Hyatt the damn ball? 2 receptions 75 yards. He singlehandedly stretched the field and forced the Commanders defense to stop sitting on the shorter stuff. And please, just throw the ball far. He’ll get under it.
Dexter Lawrence continues to wreak havoc. He’s the disrupter. Everyone else just cleans up after the messes he creates. Leonard Williams had a key block of a FG. Banks had a tough assignment in covering McLaurin. McLaurin collected 90 yards. Yet Banks is learning and competing. He made some important stops (passes defensed), and had his first NFL interception.
Jets are next. Tough defense. Jets are -3. The Jets DL will make this a long day unless the Giants OL gets healthier. The way through to a win is in a lower scoring game. 3-5 is necessary to dig out of the hole. The Raiders are the following week, winnable. So 4-5 is possible. The Offense must be careful not to turn over the ball, as the Jets win with defensive scoring.
