A’Shawn Robinson, Carolina Panthers, Agree To Contract
Robinson, a former second-round pick, spent the first four seasons of his professional career with the Detroit Lions. He played in 58 games while starting 37 during his time with the Lions, mainly as a run stuffer. Robinson contributed 172 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and notched five sacks during his time in Detroit.
During his second year, Robinson started all 16 games. During Week 6, Robinson got his first career interception, when he picked off Drew Brees and returned it two yards for a touchdown in a loss.
He tested free agency in 2020 and signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams. Robinson, alongside All-Pro defensive star, Aaron Donald, was instrumental in stopping the run and helped the Rams win Super Bowl 56. Robinson recorded six tackles and a sack during that game.
He only started 24 out of a possible 35 games during his three years with the Rams. He missed some time during his first season while on the Non-Football Injury list. During his final season with the Rams, Robinson suffered a torn meniscus and was placed on injured reserve. Robinson finished his tenure with the Rams by recording 121 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and only two sacks.
Robinson was not re-signed by the Rams and signed a one-year deal worth eight million dollars with the New York Giants. Lining up alongside Dexter Lawrence, Robinson helped improve a run defense that lacked talent. He started 13 out of a possible 17 games and recorded 62 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, and zero sacks.
In his eight-year career, Robinson has appeared in 110 out of a possible 131 games.
