Former New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree is going to need pull off the impossible for the second time in his life.
Tyree, who is most famously known for his helmet catch against the New England Patriots, was hoping that an investment in Clean Juice would help him profit in his post-football career.
So far, that investment has turned out to be a burden for Tyree.
Tyree coughed up $40,000 for a Clean Juice license and $450,000 for equipment. He then opened up a location in Morristown, New Jersey.
Unfortunately for Tyree, things quickly spiraled out of control. For starters, he learned that his store could only make about $10,000 in profits annually.
What complicated matters for Tyree was that stores were told to start selling juices that were bottled off-site. That essentially made the pricey cold press machines worthless.
“One of the reasons I came into this was the quality of the product,” Tyree’s wife Leilah told the New York Post. “We spent so much time educating the clientele and then it became bottled juice.”
In August 2023, the Super Bowl XLII hero transitioned his store from Clean Juice to Tyree’s Table. He now offers a wide range of foods and cold-pressed juices. That hasn’t really changed his financial situation though.
Tyree still owes $238,000 for a Small Business Administration loan. And if he wants to break away from his current lease, he’d have to find a quick $80,000.
“I’ve been in hard circumstances before, but this is uncomfortable,” Tyree said.
Hopefully, Tyree turns the corner and gets his financial situation sorted out.
