New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones went viral on Monday after jumping into a fight to defend his teammate, offensive lineman Greg Van Roten, during a joint practice with the Detroit Lions.
The moment drew a hilarious reaction from linebacker Brian Burns, as well as widespread admiration across the sports world.
Among those impressed with Jones’ selflessness and loyalty is retired NFL punter and current WWE broadcaster, Pat McAfee.
“Absolutely love it,” McAfee said of Jones defending his teammate. “As soon as I saw this video… I’m a Daniel Jones guy.
“Him diving in there to save one of his guys, (you) never see it. I (expletive) love it. Look out for the Giants this year! Look out for the Giants this year! They got the quarterback fighting for the offensive line!”
Although he doesn’t realistically expect the Giants to be a dominant team this year, McAfee loves the fight they showed, especially from Jones.
“But I love Daniel Jones after that one video,” McAfee added. “What you’re trying to learn is who you’ve got on the roster. Daniel Jones is a dog. I respect the (expletive) out of him.
“I might buy a Daniel Jones jersey. . . Don’t tell me who you are, show me who you are.”
McAfee also postulated that the presence of rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers may have contributed to Jones’ newfound edge — that in addition to his frustration with Hard Knocks.
Whatever it is, Danny Dimes has a little more swagger about him this offseason, which we all saw clear as day on Monday.
