Aaron Rodgers has expressed some questionable opinions about science and other off-field topics, but he at least has a stronger grasp of geography.
The New York Jets quarterback acknowledged the inconvenient fact that most people tend to ignore: They don’t play in New York.
During an appearance on Barstool’s Pardon My Take podcast, Rodgers was asked where he lives. The 40-year-old said all of his Jets teammates are based in New Jersey, the Jets’ actual home.
“Nobody [on the team] lives in New York,” Rodgers said (h/t New York Post). “If you’re a Giant you can, but I don’t know why you would just because of the traffic into the tunnel. I joke about, I know the stadium used to be on Long Island, but we’re the New Jersey Jets. So are the Giants.”
The Buffalo Bills are the only NFL team with an actual claim on New York, but the league benefits from marketing the Jets and Giants as Big Apple teams. Bringing a Super Bowl to Met Life Stadium would have been a much tougher sell if pitching everyone on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Despite that technicality, Pardon My Take co-host Big Cat claimed that Rodgers became “Mr. New York” when the Jets acquired him last season. The longtime Green Bay Packers star quickly trekked into the city to watch Knicks and Rangers playoff games at Madison Square Garden.
However, Rodgers attempted just one pass before suffering a season-ending Achilles tear on his opening drive for Gang Green.
“I had such a great time,” Rodgers said. “That’s why it was so heartbreaking to play four f*****g plays.”
Rodgers will look to return and steer the New York Jersey Jets to their first playoff appearance since 2010.
