With the end of the regular season, the Jets are now able to submit requests to interview general manager and head coach candidates who are employed by other teams in the league.
Here is a list of candidates the Jets have requested to interview.
General Manager
Mike Borgonzi, Assistant General Manager, Kansas City Chiefs
The Jets have submitted a request to interview Kansas City Chiefs’ Assistant General Manager Mike Borgonzi for their GM vacancy, per source.
— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) January 6, 2025
Borgonzi is about as chalk of a candidate as you can find, the number two man on the league’s dominant franchise. Brett Veach’s right hand man has worked with the Chiefs going back to 2009.
Alec Halaby, Assistant General Manager, Philadelphia Eagles
The #Jets will interview #Eagles assistant general manager Alec Halaby for their GM job on Wednesday, per source.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 6, 2025
The last Jets general manager, Joe Douglas, also was the Eagles’ assistant general manager prior to his hiring in New York. It might seem unconventional to make such a similar hire on paper twice in a row, but Halaby has a very different background from Douglas. He is considered arguably the biggest analytical pioneer working in an NFL front office.
Ray Farmer, Senior Personnel Executive, Los Angeles Rams
Jets requested a general manager interview with Rams senior personnel executive Ray Farmer, per source. Farmer works closely with Rams GM Les Snead throughout their draft process.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 6, 2025
The Rams’ tendency to trade away first round picks for established players has allowed it to fly under the radar the way the team stockpiles and hits on picks in the mid rounds of the NFL Draft. This is one of the top reasons the team has remained competitive after watching so many big name veterans walk out the door over the last few years.
Ryan Grigson, Senior Vice President of Player Personnel, Minnesota Vikings
The New York Jets have requested to speak to Vikings senior VP of player personnel Ryan Grigson, per source.
— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) January 6, 2025
Grigson previously had a five years stint as general manager of the Indianapolis Colts. While the Colts had successful seasons, Grigson’s failure to surround Andrew Luck with a quality offensive line likely contributed to injuries that led to the quarterback’s surprise 2019 retirement.
Mike Greenberg, Assistant General Manager, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sources: Jets requested a general manager interview with Buccaneers assistant GM Mike Greenberg, who grew up a Jets fan on Long Island.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 6, 2025
He isn’t the ESPN host, but like his TV counterpart Greenberg is a local product who grew up rooting for the Jets.
Trey Brown, Senior Personnel Executive, Cincinnati Bengals
The #Jets requested an interview with #Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown for their GM job, per source.
Brown has been in the mix for several other jobs in recent years.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 6, 2025
Brown is a candidate with an interesting resume. In addition to extensive work in NFL front offices, he has run the show for teams in a pair of minor professional football leagues.
Head Coach
Bobby Slowik, Offensive Coordinator, Houston Texans
The #Jets have put in a request to speak with #Texans OC Bobby Slowik, source said. His first request of the cycle after being a hot candidate last year.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 6, 2025
Slowik was a hot name a year ago after CJ Stroud’s monster rookie season. His star seems to have cooled a bit this year. Prior to joining Houston’s staff a year ago, Slowik spent his coaching career working under Kyle Shanahan.
Arthur Smith, Offensive Coordinator, Pittsburgh Steelers
The #Jets have requested to interview #Steelers OC Arthur Smith, source said, an intriguing candidate to watch there.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 6, 2025
Smith was a candidate the last time the Jets had an opening at head coach four years ago. He ended up landing in Atlanta as Falcons head coach where he had three consecutive 7-10 seasons before being fired. He joined Pittsburgh’s staff in 2024.
Aaron Glenn, Defensive Coordinator, Detroit Lions
Jets, Bears and Saints all are expected to request HC interviews for Lions DC Aaron Glenn.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 6, 2025
Glenn isn’t just the defensive coordinator of the Super Bowl favorite. He was a three-time Pro Bowl cornerback with the Jets during his playing days.
Vance Joseph, Defensive Coordinator, Denver Broncos
The New York Jets put in a request to interview Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph for their head coach job, per source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 6, 2025
Joseph failed during his stint as Denver’s head coach, but his work in a return trip as defensive coordinator has earned him another look for top jobs across the league.
Joe Brady, Offensive Coordinator, Buffalo Bills
Source: The #Jets have requested to interview #Bills OC Joe Brady for their vacant HC job.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 6, 2025
Five years ago Brady was viewed as the hottest offensive mind in football after engineering the rise of a LSU offense with Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, and Ja’Marr Chase. His stock took a hit after a rocky tenure in Carolina with the Panthers, but his stock is high again after his performance the last year as the Bills offensive coordinator.
Matt Nagy, Offensive Coordinator, Kansas City Chiefs
The #Jets put in a request to interview #Chiefs OC Matt Nagy for their head coaching job, per source.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 6, 2025
Nagy is an Andy Reid disciple who went 34-31 during a four year stint as head coach of the Chicago Bears.
Brian Griese, Quarterbacks Coach, San Francisco 49ers

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 6, 2025
Griese left a career in broadcasting three years ago to work for the 49ers so this is certainly an outside the box candidate, albeit one with Kyle Shanahan ties.
Brian Flores, Defensive Coordinator, Minnesota Vikings
The #Jets requested to interview #Vikings DC Brian Flores for their HC opening, per source. NYJ is building a long list. pic.twitter.com/WuwtQCUts2
— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) January 6, 2025
Flores is one of the game’s brightest defensive minds and has head coaching experience with the Miami Dolphins where he oversaw a massive roster overhaul.
Josh McCown, Quarterbacks Coach, Minnesota Vikings
Jets have requested head coaching interviews with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and QB coach Josh McCown, per sources.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 6, 2025
It wasn’t long ago McCown was playing quarterback for the Jets. Despite being new to coaching, this isn’t the first time he has received buzz for the head job.
