We’re just days away from the 2025 NFL Draft, which means we’re also just days away from being able to ignore mock drafts for a few months.
With the big day getting closer, more and more publishers are releasing complete mock drafts predicting all 257 picks. If you were to go back and look at this a week today, I imagine the percentage of correct predictions would be no more than 15%, but it’s fun to look at none the less.
So let’s dive into Chad Reuter’s picks for the New York Jets:
#7 – Armand Membou – Missouri – OT
“With nimble feet and a willingness to finish blocks, the 21-year-old Membou has a chance to be a very good starter at right tackle. Last year, the Jets took Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the first round to man the blind side; this year, they follow the Steelers’ lead (Pittsburgh drafted Broderick Jones in 2023 and Troy Fautanu in 2024) in picking a second consecutive Day 1 tackle.”
#42 – Alfred Collins – Texas – DT
#73 – Kyle McCord – Syracuse – QB
#110 – Harold Fanin Jr – Bowling Green – TE
#145 – Jaylen Reed – Penn State – S
#162 – KeAndre Lambert-Smith – Auburn – WR
#186 – Antwaun Powell-Ryland – Virginia Tech – Edge
#207 – Fentrell Cypress II – Florida State – CB
On the surface this looks to cover the bases. You solidify the trenches with the first two picks, give Justin Fields protection and new receiving threats in Harold Fanin Jr and KeAndre Lambert-Smith and add some dedpth to both the edge and corner positions. There is a lot of box ticking in here, but I’d be somewhat disappointed if this was the outcome at the end of draft weekend.
I have no problems with Membou at number one, although I’d be happy with a number of players I’m leaning towards Membou as well. But after that, the draft loses me.
I like Alfred Collins but the top of the second round seems a touch rich especially as he has Collins over Tyleik Williams. I personally have Collins as a middle third round type prospect and would prefer we look to add a TE there in Mason Taylor.
Kyle McCord in the third round is extremely rich for me, he doesn’t have an elite arm and while he made a number of big plays in college, that lack of elite arm and the decision making will lead to a lot of turnovers, he did lead college in turnover worthy play rate for a QB as well. Third round? I think that’s a waste. He has players like Jayden Higgins and Jack Bech going later and I’d take either of those over a QB in the third round and then someone like KeAndre Lambert-Smith as the chosen receiver who at this point in his career is one-dimensional (Although I do like him and think he could develop in time).
I think Reuter has the positional areas down, but the order and the players leave me completely underwhelmed.
