The Chiefs or Chargers may steal 52-sack pass rusher, Jadeveon Clowney from the Jets this season. One source is urging the Jets to trade for the best veteran on the Carolina roster after having a 0-2 start but finally able to win under Andy Dalton. However, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Panthers decide to trade him if they fall out of the playoff picture. The Panthers may have their permanent answer with Dalton but there’s no guarantee that he can lead an injury-filled roster that already lost Derrick Brown on defense.
Carolina is more closer to securing a decent draft pick in next year’s draft than they are making it to the playoffs. The Jets have the potential to make their first postseason in a while which should share some mutual interest among each other. There are questions about the impact he could have but his experience and skills can revive the Jets defense. Unfortunately, Jermaine Johnson isn’t returning this season so getting Clowney in a decent trade wouldn’t be a bad idea.
New York may be one trade away from becoming contenders and since there was interest this season, it means they still might have the same mutual feelings. It may prompt Carolina into rebuilding mode again since they may get an extra 2025 NFL Draft pick in return. New York could use more pass rushers to give Aaron Rodgers more opportunities on the field. Clowney continues to be a prominent name in the passing rush group so it shouldn’t be too long before he gets other trade interests from more rosters.

Revitalizing Los Angeles
The Chargers were hoping to remain healthy all this season but that isn’t happening anymore. The team lost Justin Herbert, Joe Alt, Joey Bosa and Rashawn Slater in one game. There’s no guarantee of what will stand with Bosa’s future but his inconsistencies and injuries should be concerning for Jim Harbaugh. Rumors were piling up this offseason regarding Bosa despite restructuring his contract to remain with the team.
Harbaugh should probably consider trading for a healthy scratch veteran like Clowney who could still put up sacks in crucial moments. Bosa isn’t the same player anymore but a boost like Clowney could make him the starter alongside Khalil Mack and revive the Chargers defense again.
Trouble Pending in Kansas City?
It seems like it’s every week that the Chiefs are close to losing one game after the other. Kansas City may be 3-0 but it doesn’t mean they’re a perfect roster. Chris Jones has been making an impact like always but Felix Anudike-Uzomah continues to be a disappointment. It’s not the biggest concern since the Chiefs’ defense always makes a way to make an impact but one to watch for in big moments.
Clowney is above-average from Anudike-Uzomah and George Karlaftis which means he could provide a higher ceiling. There’s no perfect roster in the league but if they want to tweak their team a bit more to give them more chances to make quarterbacks a living hell, they bring in a guy like Clowney.
Other Potential Trade Destinations
Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore is bringing in Yannick Ngakoue but he’s only going to go far when he’s healthy. His addition shows they lacked experience in the pass-rushing unit. However, it shouldn’t stop them from using brute force to get a championship linebacker. Clowney is familiar with the Ravens after having a remarkable year with them last 2023 campaign, recording 9.5 sacks, 43 tackles and 19 quarterback hits.
Baltimore could call for his services if Odafe Oweh or David Ojabo suffer an injury to boost the defense.
Dallas Cowboys
Nothing is worse right now than the defense for the Cowboys. Last season, the team was on fire with their doomsday defense under former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. It’s a new era with Mike Zimmer and they can’t expect Eric Kendricks to pick up the slack. After losing Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler Jr., it shows they need a new veteran to help pile up sacks and get pressure on the quarterback alongside Kendricks and Micah Parsons.
