You’ll never guess who Mike Greenberg ranked as his top NFL quarterback entering the 2024 season. Actually, you probably will.
On Tuesday’s Get Up, the ESPN host highlighted his top-six quarterbacks. Greenberg presented his list in the form of a pyramid in honor of Aaron Rodgers’ recent trip to Egypt during mandatory minicamp.
You can probably see where this is going.
Greenberg placed Jordan Love, CJ Stroud, and Lamar Jackson on the pyramid’s lower level at six, five, and four. Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes supported the middle column at three and two.
To nobody’s surprise, the diehard New York Jets fan placed Rodgers at the top.
“You may say to yourself, how in the world is it that Patrick Mahomes is not No. 1? Well, the reason is, we have to give credit to the man that built the pyramid,” Greenberg declared. “I’m not talking about King Tut. I’m talking about Aaron Rodgers.”
Fans mocked Greenberg for his unapologetic homerism.
“I didn’t have to watch a second of this video to know he named Rodgers number 1,” a fan said.
“This is one of the more pathetic, biased segments I’ve ever seen in my life,” a fan claimed. “How in the world in 2024 do you think Rodgers, who just blew his Achilles, is anywhere near the level of Mahomes?”
“I really don’t know how people seriously turn on ESPN or FS1 in the mornings,” a fan wondered.
“It’s hard to admit when one of the greats just doesn’t have the juice anymore,” Arrowhead Report’s Joshua Brisco wrote. “This tweet is not about Aaron Rodgers.”
Dan Orlovsky and Booger McFarland shook their heads as Greenberg tossed aside objectivity to deify Rodgers. The Jets fan passionately reminded viewers that Rodgers won back-to-back MVPs after the Green Bay Packers “gave up on him” and “idiots on this show like me” wrote him off.
It might be more wishful thinking on his part, but Greenberg predicted that the 40-year-old will bounce back in a major way after suffering a season-ending injury in the opening drive of his Jets debut.
“He is going to have the best season,” Greenberg decreed. “Mark my words. He is going to have the best season of any quarterback in the NFL this year.”
