Jets fill a need with Georgia star
As it goes this time of year, every day comes with a new mock draft.
Among them, is the recent mock draft released by Field Yates of ESPN, who had the New York Jets taking edge rusher Mykel Williams from Georgia. Explaining the pick, Yates said:
It sounds as if the Jets are going to move on from Aaron Rodgers and make a change at quarterback. But with the top two passers off the board, the Jets probably would have to look elsewhere at No. 7. Perhaps they look at the Day 2 quarterbacks or just address the spot in free agency.
Regardless, I think New York turns to the defense here, and Williams would boost a pass rush that needs more of an edge presence to complement Will McDonald IV, who broke out in 2024 with 10.5 sacks. Williams has rare length, power and more pass-rush juice than his sack numbers suggest (14 over three seasons).
Now this pick would be quite interesting. On the one hand, the Philadelphia Eagles just won the Super Bowl largely on the back of an all-time great pass rushing performance.
The Super Bowl was Vic Fangio’s ideal way to play defense. Nickel personnel, not one single blitz (but a 38% pressure rate!), constricting zone coverage, and slamming the door shut

But on the other hand, edge rusher just might be the one position where the Jets are “set” given the breakout performances of recent first round draft picks and edge rushers Jermaine Johnson II and Will McDonald IV in the last two seasons, respectively.
What do you think? Yay or nay to the edge rusher idea in round 1?
