Aaron Rodgers isn’t at mandatory minicamp this week for the New York Jets because of a “very important event.” This appears to be the No. 1 story in the NFL this week.
Speaking to the media this Wednesday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh tried his best to shut down all the speculation surrounding his squad.
“Aaron and I are on the exact same page,” Saleh told reporters Wednesday. “There’s no issue between Aaron or his teammates, for that matter. We addressed it yesterday. It’s more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside.”
Unfortunately for Saleh, it didn’t take long for the speculation to ramp up again on social media.
Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel poured gasoline on the fire by suggesting that Rodgers is away from the Jets due to an “expensive absence.” He didn’t reveal where the four-time MVP is at this time.
“Wait until you hear where Aaron Rodgers is…instead of with his teammates,” Daniel wrote on X. “That’s an expensive absence.”
The Jets would obviously prefer that Rodgers is leading by example at minicamp, but clearly he felt like he needed to be somewhere else.
At the end of the day, all that matters for the Jets is that Rodgers is healthy and winning games in the fall. If that happens, all will be forgiven.
If the Jets once again fail to reach the playoffs, however, the pressure will be on Rodgers, Saleh and everyone associated with the franchise.
