Former Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard is likely a cut candidate this offseason. According to reports, the New York Jets will likely part ways with Lazard to no surprise since the team will also release Aaron Rodgers and wideout Davante Adams. This means the chances of the Jets trading Garrett Wilson are low since this opens the aerial attack for him and depending on what the organization does next month in free agency, he may stay. Acquiring Lazard originally was Rodgers’ idea in hopes of providing some capable chemistry for him to excel on the field but things didn’t pan out that way after a disastrous 2024 campaign.
However, Lazard should receive some heavy interest on a budget contract this offseason but many shouldn’t expect him to sign a long-term extension anytime soon. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2018, the former Iowa State product came into the league filling in big shoes being one of the main contributors under quarterback Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers. Despite that, the wide receiver still saw a steep decline in his production in 2023 only recording five touchdowns but was battling injuries. With the new scenery, Lazard should be able to get back on his feet and revive his career.

Next Possible Teams
New Orleans Saints
The Saints should take advantage of this opportunity if Lazard becomes free on the market considering the salary cap situation is hell for New Orleans. The team only has two capable wideouts Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave who has an uncertain future on the roster. They originally brought in Marquez Valdes-Scantling to bring some temporary life to the offense midseason in 2024 but he’s nothing more but a journeyman. Perhaps, they could sign Lazard on a budget to compete for the No. 3 wideout spot to see if he has anything left.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens are in the same boat as the Saints this offseason. Diontae Johnson was a disaster for the roster while Baltimore had to survive without star wideout Zay Flowers in Lamar Jackson’s offense. Lazard might not even start on top of the depth ahead of Rashod Bateman but he’s a cost-effective replacement for Nelson Agholor who’s becoming a free agent.
Kansas City Chiefs
Depending on what the Kansas City Chiefs will do this free agency, it looks like it will turn ugly before it gets better. Wideouts Marquise Brown and DeAndre Hopkins will become free agents and they have to figure out how to pay them both. Hypothetically, they probably won’t since they don’t have the money for it while one of them may return on a low budget. With that, the Chiefs should dip their hands in free agency and probably sign a bargain like Lazard if he’s free.
Los Angeles Chargers
Wide receiver Ladd McConkey is the only active capable weapon for the Los Angeles Chargers offense. Quentin Johnston is not the answer and will likely get cut if anything this offseason. Joshua Palmer is a free agent so while they will likely sign a superstar wide receiver, they will still need depth behind their weapons. Lazard should be one of them to be a solid one-man replacement for both Palmer and DJ Chark.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys need a new wideout in the worst way as they anticipate losing Brandin Cooks in free agency. They can’t depend on CeeDee Lamb for another majority of the season. Since the Cowboys aren’t big spenders in free agency, they could sign Lazard on a one-year deal to become their new No. 2 wideout.
