Jets WR Garrett Wilson and CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner swept annual NFL rookie honors. Wilson became the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, while Gardner won Defensive Rookie of the Year. The Jets have become just the third team in history to win both awards.
Gardner, who was selected at #4 overall, led the league with 20 passes defended, 2 interceptions and 75 tackles (51 solo). Gardner become the firth Jets to win this award. FS Erik McMillan won it in 1988, DE Hugh Douglas won in 1995, LB Jonathan Vilma did it in 2004 and finally DT Sheldon Richardson won in 2013.
Wilson, who was selected at #10 overall, set Jets rookie records with 83 receptions for 1,103 yards, 4 TDs. He had three 100-yard games and went over 90 yards six times. Wilson became the first Jet to win the award.
