Greg Zuerlein will have a shot at taking his starting spot back.
New York Jets head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced on Friday that Zuerlein will be back in the lineup for the Jets (4-11) ahead of facing the Buffalo Bills (12-3) in Week 17.
Zuerlein, 37, was placed on injured reserve because of a left knee issue in October.
At the time, the designation was curious because the veteran was struggling but Ulbrich stuck by him until he was placed on IR without warning. Some believed his time in New York might be over because of all the circumstances, but perhaps not.
Zuerlein is still under contract for 2025 and could be back with a positive final two weeks.
Without Zuerlein, the Jets have had multiple kickers in town filling in. Most recently, Anders Carlson failed to convince after multiple misses of his own during New York’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams last week.
In eight games before injury, Zuerlein was 9-for-15 on his attempts this year and 13-for-14 on extra-points.
