Last week on JetNation radio, our hosts said that one option for the Jets with the seventh overall pick that wasn’t being talked about enough was selecting an edge rusher. Now draft insider Todd McShay has said the same.
Speaking on his youtube channel, McShay predicted an early run on edge rushers that isn’t being talked about by many insiders. In fact, he said he wouldn’t be surprised if seven edge rushers were taken with the first 17 picks.
In discussing Georgia edge rusher Jalin Walker, McShay said that based on what he’s hearing, “everyone wants Jalin Walker”.
He of course included the Jets among the seven teams he could foresee pursuing an edge rusher like Walker which would make plenty of sense.
As currently constructed, the Jets roster can count on exactly one edge rusher to get to the quarterback in Will McDonald. Of course the Jets are due to get Jermaine Johnson back from injury this season, but how well he’ll play coming off of a ruptured achilles is a complete unknown.
With a defensive-minded head coach in place, it would be difficult to imagine Aaron Glenn not wanting to add a high level presence to get after the quarterback. In just under 48 hours we’ll have our answer.
