The New York Jets defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-21, in the 2022 preseason opener. The win, however, was overshadowed by QB Zach Wilson’s first quarter knee injury. As the Jets were trailing 14-0, it looked like Wilson finally got the offense going only to go down on a totally unnecessary scramble. It was the same right knee that he injured last season against New England.
After the game head coach Robert Saleh said that Wilson’s ACL was intact but he is expected to undergo an MRI tomorrow. Some experts believe that Wilson could have torn his ACL, which would pretty much end his season.
Despite the win, the Jets did not impress. Their starting defense gave up a quick touchdown on the Eagles’ opening drive. Wilson got picked off on the opening Jets’ drive, which led to Philly’s second touchdown. The revamped starring offensive line had trouble opening any running lanes, while the defensive front hardly applied any pressure on Philadelphia’s signal callers.
Next game is on August 22nd when the Gang Green take on the Falcons in preseason game #2.
