Head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey have officially had their first day with the New York Jets.
Glenn, 52, was hired last week and it was expected that Washington Commanders assistant general manager Lance Newmark would end up landing the Jets’ vacant GM position. That’s because the two previously worked together with the Detroit Lions.
Instead, after Glenn was hired, a few more second interviews took place for the general manager post. Mougey was one of those and he got the gig.
Comparing their resumes, Glenn and Mougey did not work together at all during their respective rises through the NFL ranks.
Even so, Mougey revealed the two had a small past together and that occasion left a positive impact on Mougey. It likely factored into the team’s consideration since they knew there was a good foundation.
Mougey revealed when he was working as the assistant general manager with the Denver Bronocs he was part of a group that interviewed Glenn for a past head coach vacancy there. The GM said he liked what he heard back then and thinks the same coach is now in New York.
“Instantly, I’m feeling that again, that passion,” Mougey said.
A good start on Day 1.
