The Jets were 30-64 in five and a half seasons under Douglas.
The New York Jets have fired general manager Joe Douglas per multiple reports.
As first reported by @snytv: Joe Douglas is OUT as #Jets general manager. Six weeks before his contract expired. Woody Johnson makes a change.
A complete rebuild coming for a New York.

Douglas was in the final season of a six year contract he signed in May 2019. After compiling a 30-64 record and no winning seasons, his departure seemed more a question of “when” than “if.” The team’s dismal performance in 2024 surely sealed Douglas’ fate.
The Jets can now begin the search for a replacement general manager early.
Douglas was hired with much fanfare in 2019 after the dismissal of Mike Maccagnan. He was touted as the NFL’s next great general manager. While there were some good personnel moves such as the 2022 NFL Draft class and the signing of DJ Reed, Douglas never lived up to the hype.
Over the last two years, ownership seemed to become increasingly hands on with the team’s management. How many of the major decisions were made by Douglas and how many were made by Woody Johnson is an open question. Either way, Douglas’ tenure with the team was unsuccessful.
