A pair of wide searches expand.
The Jets have cast wide nets in their searches for a new head coach and general manager. These nets continue to get wider. The team has requested to speak with Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo for the head coaching job and Lions executive Chris Spielman for the general manager job.

Spagnuolo has established himself as one of the greatest coordinators in NFL history with four combined Super Bowl rings running the defenses of the Giants and the Chiefs. Back in 2009, he was a serious candidate for the Jets’ head coaching job. The team went with Rex Ryan while Spagnuolo was hired as head coach of the Rams. That head coaching tenure was unsuccessful as he posted an 10-38 record in three seasons. However, that tenure ended a long time ago back in 2011.

Spielman has worked with the Lions since 2020 as a special assistant to the owner and CEO. His role and experience are unclear. During his time, the Lions have risen to the top of the NFL. Spielman had a long and successful playing career and worked in broadcasting prior to joining the Lions front office.
