After selecting two offensive players in the first two rounds, the New York Jets went defense in the 3rd, as they selected CB Azareye’h Thomas from Florida State with their #73 overall draft pick. Thomas, 6’2″, 198 lbs, started in all 12 games last season, recording 52 tackles (2 for loss), defended 4 passes and intercepted one. He has a good size and is excellent in press coverage. According to PFF, Thomas had a 77.9 coverage grade and had the lowest target rate with 9.6 percent, which is better than Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
Azareye’h Thomas is the 12th FSU player selected by the Jets in their entire history and the third in the last four drafts. The Gang Green selected DE Jermaine Johnson #26 overall in 2022 and QB Jordan Travis in the 5th round last year.
