The New York Jets traded down from #10 to #11 and selected OT Olu Fashanu from Penn State. This was a logical pick, considering how thin the team’s O-line depth is. OT Tyron Smith, the projected starter at left tackle, hasn’t played an entire season since 2015. Protecting QB Aaron Rodgers is essential, as we saw in last year’s season opener and Fashanu definitely fits the bill. Fashanu has elite athletic skills and a lot of upside. He started in 12 games for Penn State in 2023 and earned First-team Associated Press All-American honors. He was also the best offensive lineman of Big Ten.
In the trade with the Vikings, the Jets received #11 overall (Fashanu selection), #129 overall (4th round) and #157 overall (5th round). The Vikings received #10 overall and #203 overall (6th round). Great move by the Jets overall. They drafted the player they wanted and acquired an extra draft pick.
