Media were on hand for the Jets’ training camp practice today. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Fans were in attendance, although this practice was exclusive to season ticket holders only;
- Olu Fashanu did not practice due to a sore elbow which is not considered serious;
- Qwan’tez Stiggers returned to practice, his absence yesterday having been confirmed as a personal matter;
- In 7-on-7, Aaron Rodgers hit Garrett Wilson who lost his man on an out-and-up then threw deep to Xavier Gipson who made a leaping contested catch;
- Adrian Martinez then hit Malachi Corley in stride for 20+ and Tyrod Taylor hit Jason Brownlee down the field;
- On defense, the Giants went to Malik Nabers three straight times. Brandin Echols broke up the first, then the next was low and incomplete with DJ Reed covering. Nabers made a catch against Sauce Gardner on the third. Giants’ quarterbacks were 0-for-4 before that play;
- The Jets gave up a touchdown to Ayir Asante in kick coverage drills;
- In 11-on-11’s Rodgers had a scramble, then Breece Hall ran behind Jeremy Ruckert (at fullback) before Rodgers hit Allen Lazard on a quick out. Brian Burns may have had Hall stopped for a loss but he kept going to the second level;
- Rodgers scrambled and found Braelon Allen for a red zone touchdown but may have been sacked before that;
- He then had a pass to the end zone which Ruckert couldn’t hold onto in tight coverage;
- With Tyrod Taylor in, Isaiah Davis had a good run, followed by a 15-yard touchdown on a fade to Brownlee over the top of a defender;
- Rodgers then went back in and, after a short pass to Lazard and an incompletion behind Gipson, fired a touchdown pass to Breece Hall;
- Then, after an Allen carry, Rodgers found Lazard but he dropped it in the end zone;
- On defense, Quinnen Williams and Javon Kinlaw shared a sack on the first play of 11-on-11’s;
- The Giants then had three plays for short gains with Chuck Clark making a big hit on one of them before a tight end was wide open in the flat for a TD and then they scored again on a quarterback scramble. Daniel Jones was 5-for-5;
- The backups gave up a touchdown to the tight end down the seam and Braiden McGregor got into it with a Giants player;
- In the next 11-on-11 (non red-zone) series for the offense Rodgers rolled out and found an open Wilson downfield 30 yards downfield for a long touchdown;
- After an Allen run, Rodgers then found Lazard for a decent gain on a quick throw against the blitz;
- Rodgers then hit Ruckert and Wilson over the middle, with a great blitz pickup by Hall on the latter play. Hall also had a good run on the series;
- The series ended with Rodgers audibling and then hitting a quick throw to Gipson for a nice gain;
- On defense, the Giants worked mostly on underneath stuff but Zaire Barnes gave up a first down to a tight end in coverage, Jones was 9-for-9 at this stage;
- After a special teams period, the Jets had a drive the field drill and Rodgers got back to work with quick passes to Lazard and Gipson. Lazard made a one-handed catch for a short gain;
- After a run and an incompletion, Allen ran for a first down and trucked the safety;
- Allen was hit hard by two guys on his next run;
- Wilson dropped a Rodgers pass but made up for it two plays later when he hauled in another long touchdown;
- Malachi Corley drew a pass interference flag on an underthrown deep ball from Tyrod Taylor;
- On defense, the Jets let the tight end get behind the defense for a possible big gain but he dropped it;
- They then gave up a 25-yard 3rd-and-10 conversion to the slot receiver;
- The drive stalled there with an incompletion on fourth down.
- On their next drive, the Giants put Deonte Banks onto Wilson but he didn’t have much success either with Wilson catching three balls on him as they got down inside the five. One was almost a long touchdown but Wilson had stepped out of bounds. Gipson also beat Banks for a catch on the drive;
- Rodgers was then intercepted by a linebacker but got a reprieve when a defensive back was called for holding;
- They completed the drive, on which Rodgers was 6-for-7, when he side-armed one to Lazard for a touchdown at the back of the end zone;
- The Giants then went four-and-out with their first team offense with Nabers dropping a possible 45-yard touchdown and Reed breaking up a fourth down pass as the slot corner (Echols) created pressure on the blitz;
- Tyrod Taylor got the next drive and launched a 51-yard bomb to Brownlee for a touchdown with Brownlee making a fingertip grab and running it in; and
- The Giants’ backups drove down to the red zone but Tommy DeVito’s fourth down pass was broken up by Brandon Codrington to end practice.
