Media was on hand for the Jets’ first training camp practice today. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Morgan Moses and Breece Hall were working with the trainers over on the side as practice began, as were Mike Williams and Nick Bawden, who remain on the PUP list. Hall was limited but did practice;
- Alijah Vera-Tucker was back on the field and practicing but sat out team drills;
- With Moses and Vera-Tucker out, Wes Schweitzer and Max Mitchell got first unit reps on the right side;
- Aaron Rodgers’ first pass in the team drills was caught by a diving Allen Lazard for a 20-yard gain;
- The next three plays were a short pass to Xazavian Valladay and runs by Hall and Braelon Allen;
- Leki Fotu blew up a run on the second unit’s first series and Tyrod Taylor misfired on a throw to Irv Charles;
- Eric Watts had a pressure against the third team to force Andrew Peasley to throw the ball away;
- Izzy Abanikanda had a couple of good reps with that unit;
- In 7-on-7’s Rodgers worked the short passing game as he completed four in a row to Jeremy Ruckert, Garrett Wilson twice and Allen;
- The second unit struggled again as Jarrick Bernard-Converse broke up a Taylor pass and then Charles dropped one;
- Peasley was then intercepted by Qwan’tez Stiggers on an underthrown pass to end the 7-on-7 session;
- Micheal Clemons got some reps with the first unit as Will McDonald worked exclusively with the second team;
- In red zone, Rodgers showed signs of rust with three straight incompletions following a screen pass to Wilson for a short gain. Xavier Gipson dropped a pass thrown just behind him and Sauce Gardner and Tony Adams almost had interceptions;
- Fotu and Jayln Holmes blew up a red zone run by the second unit but then Taylor hit Charles for a TD; and
- Rodgers got another series and hit Lazard for a touchdown at the back of the end zone to end practice. Notably, Rodgers extended the play with nobody open and threw on the move.
