Media were on hand for the Jets’ training camp practice today. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Tyron Smith took a rest day and Xavier Gipson missed practice after limping off yesterday;
- Morgan Moses was back in individual drills;
- Alijah Vera-Tucker participated in team drills for the first time, with Olu Fashanu getting his first reps with the starters in place of Smith and having a good battle with Will McDonald in one of the team periods;
- Aaron Rodgers opened up the first 11-on-11 series with a pass over the middle to Allen Lazard;
- Breece Hall had a nice run off the edge as Fashanu made a good block on Jermaine Johnson;
- Rodgers then hit Garrett Wilson over the middle for a big gain down the field;
- Leki Fotu, Takk McKinley and Javon Kinlaw were in the backfield as Tyrod Taylor was sacked on back to back plays;
- Eric Watts made a good play in pursuit to stop a running back in space. He also recovered a fumbled snap;
- Rodgers went 4-for-4 to open the 7-on-7 session, hitting Wilson, Lazard, Isaiah Davis and Tyler Conklin. Lazard beat Sauce Gardner over the middle;
- Jamien Sherwood made a good play on a short pass;
- Qwan’tez Stiggers broke up a Tyrod Taylor pass but then got beaten for a deep touchdown on the next play with Malik Taylor making a diving catch;
- Malachi Corley got open with a good route but Taylor overthrew him;
- Jason Brownlee had a few catches in 7-on-7, including a nice snag on a slant route from Taylor;
- Kenny Yeboah caught a good pass from Andrew Peasley on the third unit;
- Peasley then threw a deep interception to rookie Jaylen Key;
- Jackson Sirmon also had an interception as he ripped the ball away from the tight end;
- Joe Tippmann has been having some issues with high snaps;
- In a red zone drill, the Jets scored on the third play with another Taylor touchdown catch, this time from Rodgers;
- Jeremy Ruckert also had a red zone touchdown catch over the middle, from (Tyrod) Taylor on fourth down;
- Brandin Echols limped off during the red zone period;
- The third unit’s red zone session featured a Braiden McGregor sack and a Nehemiah Shelton interception;
- Gardner had Wilson blanketed on the next red zone series; and
- Practice once again ended on a Rodgers touchdown for the third day in a row, but this time it was to Conklin rather than Lazard. Rodgers had just two incompletions on a missed screen to Lazard and the Gardner disruption on Wilson.
