Media were on hand for the Jets’ training camp practice today. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Brandin Echols missed practice after getting hurt yesterday;
- Alijah Vera-Tucker was in team drills again, in the line-up with Tyron Smith for the first time;
- Aaron Rodgers hit Tyler Conklin on the first play of team drills, although Quinnen Williams beat John Simpson for a would-be sack;
- Breece Hall broke a long run on the next play, then carried again on the next snap;
- Rodgers then escaped and hit Allen Lazard on the run for a sideline catch, although again this might have been a sack as Jermaine Johnson beat Smith;
- On the second team, Will McDonald beat a double-team for what would have been a sack on Tyrod Taylor;
- Braelon Allen had a nice run, running behind Kenny Yeboah and Jeremy Ruckert;
- Malachi Corley made his first catch of camp, falling to the ground to snare an underthrown pass for 12-15 yards;
- Takk McKinley blew up a run and had a couple of pressures including a probable sack on his first series;
- Braiden McGregor made a good stop on a Tarik Cohen run, but Cohen had a good gain on a short pass from Andrew Peasley;
- In 7-on-7’s, Rodgers was good again as his only incompletion on five attempts was a Malik Taylor drop. Lazard and Wilson caught two passes each;
- Taylor made up for the drop with a leaping catch over Qwan’tez Stiggers on the next series with the second unit;
- Peasley hit on a 30-yard connection with rookie Tyler Harrell and then Jason Brownlee made a fingertip grab;
- In the second team session, Rodgers once again connected downfield with Wilson;
- Hall then got a couple of carries but McDonald limited the damage with a good stop on one of them;
- Simpson and Johnson got into the first fight of camp after a DJ Reed pass deflection;
- Ruckert had a bad drop;
- Johnson had another pressure against Smith and Clemons combined with McKinley to stop a run against the second unit;
- Brownlee made another nice contested catch from Taylor on the outside;
- Isaiah Davis had a nice run up the middle;
- Jayln Holmes beat Carter Warren with a spin move for a sack;
- Wilson beat Reed for a 40+ yard touchdown as he lost him deep on a double move and Rodgers hit him;
- In red zone work, Rodgers misfired and couldn’t hit Wilson when he was open for an easy touchdown;
- After some red zone runs and an incompletion to Wilson on which the offense wanted a flag on Reed, Rodgers zipped a short touchdown to Lazard;
- Tanzel Smart blew up a run, drawing a hold on Xavier Newman and also hustled 40 yards downfield to get in on the tackle on one long play;
- McKinley had another sack on the third unit;
- On a drive-the-field drill, Solomon Thomas blew up a run working against Simpson but Rodgers hit Wilson for a nice high snag on an out pattern to move the chains. The drive stalled when Jamien Sherwood deflected a third down pass near the line;
- Wilson had another big play as he caught the ball in the flat and beat Reed down the sideline but again the drive stalled; and
- Jarrick Bernard-Converse had a nice pass break-up on a deep ball from Taylor to Brownlee.
