Media were on hand for the Jets’ training camp practice today. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Quinnen Williams did not practice due to a sore shoulder;
- The Panthers completed an easy touchdown pass after confusion between Sauce Gardner and Tony Adams left the receiver wide open;
- Chuck Clark had a diving interception in 7-on-7’s;
- DJ Reed gave up a touchdown on a jump ball and started a brawl by throwing a ball at the receiver as he celebrated. Clark also got involved;
- Tanzel Smart burst up the middle for a sack;
- Aaron Rodgers drew the defense offside and had a completion to Garrett Wilson for a touchdown;
- Rodgers was 1 for 4 in the first red zone period with incompletions to Xavier Gipson and Malachi Corley and an interception that went off Allen Lazard’s hands;
- Micheal Clemons threw punches in another skirmish with a Panthers player;
- Adrian Martinez hit Brandon Smith for a big gain down the middle;
- Wilson had another big play on a catch and run after a pass from Rodgers down the field;
- Isaiah Davis had a big gain as he was wide open after a Rodgers play fake. Davis also showed good hands on a short catch;
- Rodgers threw incomplete to Lazard on an apparent miscommunication;
- Breece Hall juked a defender in 11-on-11’s into the open field for what could have been an 80-yard touchdown;
- Gipson eluded two tackles on a kick return drill for a possible touchdown;
- In the next 11-on-11 session, Rodgers opened with two completions to Wilson including a 30-yard catch and run;
- Rodgers then extended the play and found Gipson open down inside the five;
- The Jets failed to punch it in as Hall fumbled and then Rodgers threw a bad pick to a linebacker;
- Clark had a hard hit on Chuba Hubbard, who was shaken up;
- Tyrod Taylor led a scoring drive with a deep ball to Lance McCutcheon and a well-blocked 20-yard Davis touchdown run to the outside;
- Taylor also connected on a downfield throw to Jason Brownlee although it was probably a sack;
- The Panthers drove for a score against the Jets starters, as Reed gave up a 30-yard catch and the Panthers scored on a 25-yard run up the middle;
- With three reserves in on the offensive line, the Jets drove the length of the field in 70 seconds with Rodgers getting rid of the ball quickly in the face of interior pressure a few times, including twice to Tyler Conklin for first downs. He then drew a pass interference penalty downfield on a deep throw to Wilson, who also caught the touchdown at the pylon to finish the drive; and
- The second team’s attempt at a drive featured a Davis drop and a bad Taylor pass that was intercepted.
