The New York Jets are playing for nothing but pride and draft position in Week 17 when they face the Buffalo Bills.
Even with it being an AFC East clash, it will still be the games within the game that will make all the difference.
Here are three key matchups to watch during the Jets (4-11) versus the Bills (12-3) clash:
CB Isaiah Oliver vs. WR Khalil Shakir
Bills quarterback Josh Allen is on a MVP pace in 2024 and is the favorite for the award currently. However, he’s fresh off a below-average effort against the New England Patriots. Shakir is his go-to man and if that connection does not get going, Allen could struggle.
WR Garrett Wilson vs. CB Christian Benford
Wilson will be worth watching both on and off the field. His latest commentary made some worried Wilson might really want to be traded this offseason… so the Jets will want to make him happy.
On top of that, Wilson and Benford had a nice battle back in Week 6. Wilson had a toe-tapping touchdown against Benford.
LB Jamien Sherwood vs. RB James Cook
With some Buffalo weather potentially on deck, the Bills will typically put a bit more on the shoulders of Cook. It’s a full-team effort on both sides to stop the rushing attack, but Sherwood will lead the line for the Jets in this department.
Cook (knee) did not play in the first matchup between these rivals.
