The New York Jets try to get back on the winning track at home against the Indianapolis Colts
The New York Jets are at home in East Rutherford, New Jersey to take on the Indianapolis Colts today. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm EST.
The Indianapolis Colts have lost three straight games after winning four of their previous five in a roller coaster ride of a season. Anthony Richardson, the Colts’ erratic second year quarterback, began the season as the starter under center. He was benched for some awful performances at quarterback, as well as a controversial play where he “tapped out”, something quarterbacks basically never do on the field. Joe Flacco took over and was also awful at quarterback, paving the way for Richardson’s return as the starter today against the Jets. Richardson is a wildly inaccurate passer. However, he throws a nice deep ball which can be dangerous. He also is a fantastic running quarterback, something the Jets have struggled against. In addition, the Colts have superstar Jonathan Taylor at running back. Against a suspect Jets run defense, Richardson plus Taylor equals trouble.
The Jets have not played well this season, with two games in which they played a good half and one game in which they played a good four quarters. Those three games account for the Jets’ three victories to date. In the seven Jets losses the Jets have ranged from mediocre to embarrassingly awful.
Last week against the Arizona Cardinals the Jets looked like a team that had checked out for the season. It was a performance that defied description, as they were not competitive in a 31 – 6 blowout loss. While the team is still mathematically in contention for a playoff berth, and a few fortunate outcomes in today’s games could potentially put the Jets just a game back with a win against the Colts, there is little reason to believe the Jets have anything close to what it takes to actually compete for the last wildcard spot. It would take stringing a bunch of wins together, and why should anyone believe the Jets are capable of such a feat? Let’s see if the Jets are even capable of one win today against a mediocre Colts team.
It’s the Jets and the Colts. Enjoy the game everyone.
