New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has broken his silence.
On Tuesday, the Jets have made the decision to fire general manager Joe Douglas. The move comes as the team heads into their bye with a disappointing 3-8 record.
Following the choice, Johnson took responsibility for it.
Earlier this year, Robert Saleh was dismissed in New York. The former head coach was fired after a 1-2 start to the season.
Most recently, New York lost at home to the Indianapolis Colts (5-6) on Sunday. It was a 28-27 final in that outing and the Jets had a look at securing the win. Instead, the team’s poor offense led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers failed to put up much of a fight in the dying moments.
In addition, Gang Green’s once promising defense has taken many steps back in 2024 thanks to various issues, including problems tackling and in pass coverage. Some of those popped up against Indianapolis as well.
The firing of Douglas comes at a curious time because of his contract. After the 2024 season, Douglas’ deal would expire and he could just simply not be brought back. Johnson and the Jets evidently did not want to wait.
