“Relax.”
A bit ironic, given that Beningo doesn’t exactly relax when it comes to his opinion on his beloved teams.
Perhaps the most visible Jets fan on the New York City radio waves, Beningo said in an appearance on WFAN that the hype about the team being a playoff contender is premature. He also cautioned that there are plenty of question marks about the Jets, saying that he won’t be burned by flying to close to the sun as he did last year.
“I’ve been burned too many times – (for) 56 years, I’ve been screwed by this franchise,” Beningo said on WFAN.
“I was 15 when they won the Super Bowl, I’m going to be 71 and they haven’t been back which really makes it sound terrible. I’ve got to see it. I don’t trust this franchise at all. I don’t trust them.”
Beningo admitted that he was “all pumped up” last year after the Jets traded for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers was lost for the season just four plays into Week 1.
“You’ve hosed me too many times times this team. I will believe it when I’ve seen it. On paper they look great. Great. Paper? Big deal,” Beningo said.
“Go out there and win. I’ll be ready. I could care less about preseason as long as nobody gets hurt.”
