The New York Jets decision to fire general manager Joe Douglas has seen many react critically of the move.
No surprise there.
The Jets moved on from their GM as the team heads into their bye week while they sit at a 3-8 record. While the writing was on the wall for Douglas considering New York’s win-loss and head coach Robert Saleh already being fired earlier this year… some were still surprised at the timing of it.
There are a couple of circumstances factoring into such reactions. A big one: Douglas was already on an expiring contract at the end of the season, so what’s the point? Additionally, others do believe Douglas did a decent job despite failing to find an answer at the quarterback position.
That narrative and more was found in headlines after the news dropped.
A roundup of national media reactions to Douglas’ dismissal can be found below:
The New York Jets have been on a darkness retreat all season.

The Jets can only begin interviews for head coach and GM with candidates who are employed with other teams beginning once the regular season ends. So, sure, there’s a slight head start, but also… not really.

The 2024 New York Jets are one of the biggest jokes in NFL history.
Everyone gets held accountable besides Aaron Rodgers.
My guess is Rodgers is back next year and whoever replaces Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas will be emasculated until Aaron is off the team. pic.twitter.com/x5PRIRgC2r
