There are a lot of things that you can say about the New York Jets. One thing you certainly cannot say is that they’re leaving stones unturned in their search for the next leaders of their franchise who will hold the general manager and head coaching seats.
With Brian Gaine interviewing, Jets have officially finished all 15 of their GM interviews to wrap up round 1. Still have 8 of 16 HC interviews to complete @JCaporoso pic.twitter.com/lnZ2aEtiTD

I’m not going to pretend that I’ve been keeping a running log of how many interviews have happened for every other opening over the last few years, but this sure feels like A LOT. 16 head coaching interviews? 15 general manager interviews? That is one packed interviewing calendar for team owner Woody Johnson and the 33rd team consulting team that was hired to help with this search.
At this point, we’re almost approaching a point where they have to interview the next great coach just based on sheer odds, which sure seems like a good thing. The downside to casting a wide so wide is it could potentially lead to “paralysis by over-analysis” wherein they’re so overloaded with information that it’s tough to piece apart the key differences in the candidates that will determine success and failure.
But what do you think? Is this wide net strategy a good one or excessive?
