Add the salary cap to the list of issues the Jets will need to deal with this year
I think it’s safe to say that the New York Jets went about as “all in” as any NFL team did over the last two seasons. Not only did they trade several draft picks to acquire short-term players, but they also structured their contracts kind of like a credit card with a bill that would be due down the line.
Because of that latter part, the Jets currently have the least carryover cap space in the 2025 season.
Here is the cap space each team will carry over next year (@Jason_OTC).

Clearly, being a team with a top 10 pick and very little cap space is sub-optimal. However, there are a few players the Jets could remove from the roster to free up some cap space. According to Over The Cap, the players who would free up the most cap space if cut by the Jets are:
- Wide receiver Davante Adams: $29,887,999 in savings if cut
- Wide receiver Allen Lazard: $6,632,000 in savings if cut
- Defensive lineman Michael Clemons: $3,325,000 in savings if cut
- Punter Thomas Morstead: $2,550,000 in savings if cut
Beyond that, they could consider a post-June 1st cut for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, which would save the team $9,500,000, but would push cap hits into future seasons. They could also consider extensions with players such as running back Breece Hall, cornerback Sauce Gardner, and wide receiver Garrett Wilson, which could free up space.
What do you think? How would you address the New York Jets cap situation?
