Bringing your daily links to the NFL’s New York Jets
Good morning Gang Green Nation! Myles Garrett is requesting a trade from the Cleveland Browns. Garrett is an absolute stud. Four time All Pro, six time Pro Bowler, seven straight double digit sack seasons. The guy’s a lock for the NFL Hall of Fame. Naturally NFL teams will be lining up to try and trade for him. Should the Jets be such a team? Well, no. Putting aside the fact that Garrett is requesting a trade because he’s tired of losing, looking to be on a Super Bowl contender, and he likely does not view the Jets in any more favorable light than the Browns, it’s just not a great move for the Jets. Of course he would make the Jets better. Of course he would be the Jets’ best pass rusher in forever. But the Jets aren’t one great player away from a Super Bowl run, Garrett will be 30 years old next season, and the cost will no doubt be exorbitant. The Jets need to hold onto their draft capital, try to increase it, and avoid the kind of splash move Woody Johnson loves to make. It will take a couple of years, but the Jets can return to prominence. They won’t do so, however, if they trade away all their draft capital chasing the next big move.
