Bringing your daily links to the NFL’s New York Jets
Good morning Gang Green Nation! With Aaron Rodgers all but gone, the Friends of Aaron are likely to follow him out the door. That would mean moving on from Davante Adams and Allen Lazard, which would free up significant cap space while removing every wide receiver on the Jets with significant production other than Garrett Wilson. Last season Adams had the second most receiving yards after Wilson among Jets wide receivers with 854. Lazard was third with 530. Fourth was Mike Williams with 166 yards. Wiliams is already gone. The next two in the Jets pecking order at wide receiver last season, Xavier Gipson and Malachi Corley, combined for nine receptions and 55 yards. Folks, assuming the Friends of Aaron will not return, the cupboard at wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson is shockingly bare.
The Jets are rumored to be interested in Tim Patrick. Patrick had less than 400 receiving yards with the Detroit Lions last season, and he missed the entirety of the prior two seasons with serious injuries. He will turn 32 years old during the season. Needless to say, if the Jets were to sign Patrick, expectations should be low, and he would at best be a one year stopgap. Perhaps a better affordable option might be Joshua Palmer. Palmer is no star, but he’s a competent NFL wide receiver who has produced at least 580 receiving yards in each of the last three seasons. Palmer should come fairly cheap, and he will be just 26 years old for the 2025 season.
With many holes on the roster and limited cap space to fill them, the Jets will likely be shopping in the bargain bin for desperately needed wide receiver help in the free agent market. Guys like Patrick and Palmer are not exciting options, but they are probably the kind of signings we can expect to fill out the wide receiver position this season. Maybe the Jets get lucky and find a surprise wide receiver value in the draft. Maybe Malachi Corley has a surprise year two leap in production. It’s possible the Jets might have a decent, if far from top notch, set of wide receivers for whomever the new quarterback might be. One can hope.
