Good morning Gang Green Nation! The NFL has again tweaked the kickoff rules. Now a touchback results in the receiving team getting the ball on the 35 yard line. The intent is to make touchbacks an unattractive option for the kicking team compared to allowing the receiving team to return the ball, thereby increasing the amount of kickoff returns. For the New York Jets, this creates an opportunity for a somewhat under the radar signing. A couple of weeks ago the Jets brought back running back Kene Nwangwu. Barring multiple injuries in the Jets’ backfield, the 27 year old Nwangwu is unlikely to get much action running the ball. In four years in the NFL he has a total of 118 yards from scrimmage. Though Nwangwu has been virtually invisible as a running back, he has shined as a kick returner. Nwangwu has 71 career kick returns with a stellar 28.7 yard average per return and four kick return touchdowns. This was an overlooked signing that could bring big dividends for the Jets in 2025.
