At a time like this, it might be worth thinking about what life would be like if the Jets had been interested in keeping Rodgers. Less than a week before the NFL Draft, the future Hall of Fame quarterback still has not decided whether he wants to continue his career or retire. One team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been stuck in limbo for the entire offseason waiting on Rodgers’ decision. Of course it is possible that Rodgers might have have committed early to playing another season if the Jets had expressed interest in bringing him back. Still, it isn’t hard to imagine the Jets being in Pittsburgh’s current predicament.
Rodgers has not been the easiest guy to deal with in the later stages of his career. When he was playing at an MVP level, you would gladly put up with his quirks. The exceptionally high level of play made the headaches worth it. Now that Rodgers is a middling to below average quarterback? It’s difficult to justify the distractions and instability. The last few days are a reminder of what the Jets walked away from.
