The New York Jets have found their next head coach.
Following an extensive search, the new bench boss in New York will be Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.
Despite Glenn leaving his second interview with the team on Tuesday without accepting a job, the 52-year-old has been hired the following day.
Multiple reports, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter, have announced the news:

Glenn was considered to be one of the top head coach candidates during the current hiring cycle. So much so, he had a second interview slated with the New Orleans Saints regarding their opening later this week… one which it appears he will not be attending.
Glenn has spent 11 years as a coach in the NFL including his past four in Detroit as DC. He had his first interview in New York on Jan 11.
Under his watch, the Lions defense has become one of the top ones in the NFL. Despite a slew of injuries in 2024, the unit remained among the best in football which likely solidified Glenn as a top interview candidate this offseason.
In 2024, the Lions defense allowed only 20.1 points per game which was the seventh-best total in the NFL.
Glenn has long been a fan favorite for the job because of his past connections to the Jets.
As a player, Glenn was New York’s first-round pick in 1994. The defensive back was with the team until 2001. Prior to joining the NFL’s coaching ranks, Glenn spent two seasons (2012-13) in the Jets front office as pro personnel scout and area scout.
Around the time of Glenn’s second interview it was reported that he was looking into building a coaching staff he would bring with him to New York. Those updates will come in due time, along with news on the team’s search for a general manager.
Like with Glenn, it appears the Jets had zoned in on one candidate: Lance Newmark. The Washington Commanders’ assistant general manager previously worked alongside Glenn in Detroit… but there is no update on Newmark just yet.
Jets Wire will provide updates as information is made available.
