Aaron Rodgers accurately said that the New York Jets play in New Jersey.
“Nobody [on the team] lives in New York,” Rodgers said on Pardon My Take. “If you’re a Giant you can, but I don’t know why you would just because of the traffic into the tunnel. I joke about, I know the [practice facility] stadium used to be on Long Island, but we’re the New Jersey Jets. So are the Giants.”
The Jets and Giants play at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which is not New York. People argued anyway on social media.
“Maybe the first time I agree with him,” a fan wrote.
“Just throw the football Aaron,” a fan advised.
“Jersey Jets sound better anyway,” a fan claimed.
“Why must he speak into a microphone,” a fan lamented.
“You can be the Paramus Jets for all we care,” a fan declared. “Just please God win!!”
Despite their New York origins, the Jets have spent most of their 64-year history in the Garden State.
The Jets originally played in Manhattan’s storied Polo Grounds, home of MLB’s Giants, when joining the AFL in 1960. They later shared Shea Stadium with the New York Mets for nearly two decades before relocating to the Meadowlands in 1984.
As Rodgers noted, the team’s facility was previously on Long Island before moving to Florham Park in 2008. Even if the Jets and Giants are New York in name only, that label isn’t likely to change anytime soon.
