There are plenty of rumours doing the rounds at the moment and plenty of mocks to fill the post Super Bowl void.
One of the more recent mocks posted by PFF outlines a trade down for the Jets.
Analyst Dalton Wasserman projects the Jets to trade with the New Orleans Saints, picking up their 9th overall selection and their #93 selection for the 7th overall pick. With that pick the Saints take Mason Graham, the big defensive tackle from Michigan who will surely interest the Jets come draft day, and with the 9th overall pick the Jets take a familiar name:
9. *TRADE* New York Jets: TE Tyler Warren, Penn State
Trade terms: Jets receive 2025 first-round pick (No. 9), 2025 third-round pick (No. 93); Saints receive 2025 first-round pick (No. 7)
New York moves down a couple of spots but still ends up with the draft’s top tight end. Warren’s skills are desperately needed for a team whose tight ends ranked 30th in PFF overall grade and last in PFF run-blocking grade in 2024.
Now moving away from Mason Graham gives me pause for thought. He’s an outstanding talent at a position of need. He would match well with Quinnen Williams and give the Jets a dominant duo of defensive tackles for the next 5 years at least.
Saying that, the Jets need a TE and Tyler Warren is the cream of the crop in this years class.
Heading into the 2025 season the Jets only have Jeremy Ruckert signed to a deal. Tyler Conklin is about to hit free agency, as is Kenny Yeboah. So the Jets will almost certainly dip into this talented draft class to select a tight end.
Warren is coming off an outstanding year where he caught 104 passes for 1233 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also made big improvements in the blocking game and at 22 years old he has a lot of development and improvement ahead of him.
This is a talented class and there is plenty of talent to be found through the third round, so for the Jets to drop just two spots and pick up a 3rd round selection holds a lot of appeal for me. Especially as we’ll be looking to turn the roster over and give Glenn the players he needs to be competitive.
There are a lot of ways to do that, picking Mason Graham would be one, picking Tyler Warren would be another.
